Project: Sourdough Bread & Pastries Photography
Before starting any shoot, I always begin with research and inspiration. Pinterest is my go-to for collecting ideas on styling, mood, and composition. For this particular project, I wanted to create images that felt light, cozy, and authentic, with a touch of homemade charm. Even though I didn’t bake the pastries myself, purchasing them saved time and allowed me to focus fully on styling and photography. I carefully curated props and accessories, including a soft-toned tablecloth and rustic elements that complemented the natural textures of the bread and pastries. Throughout the shoot, I made sure to capture a variety of angles, from overhead shots to close-up details in order to fully showcase the warmth and inviting nature of the subject.
Step-by-Step Process:
- Research & Inspiration – Started by gathering visual references and styling ideas on Pinterest to define the aesthetic I wanted: soft, cozy, and warm.
- Planning the Shoot – Sketched out a loose plan for the setup, props, and angles I wanted to capture.
- Prop Selection – Purchased a neutral, textured tablecloth and selected minimal, rustic accessories to complement the pastries without overpowering them.
- Pastry Sourcing – Bought a variety of pastries and a sourdough loaf from a local bakery, which helped streamline the timeline and let me focus on the visuals.
- Styling the Scene – Arranged the food with attention to light, texture, and negative space, making adjustments to achieve a natural, lived-in feel.
- Photography – Took photos from multiple angles including overhead, side, and close-ups to provide a full visual story.
- Post-Processing – Edited the images to enhance warmth, highlight natural tones, and maintain the cozy, authentic vibe I aimed for.
